Electric
Trailer Brake Controllers apply your trailers electric brakes as the
towing vehicles brake pedal is engaged, giving you faster response and more control.
They come in several designs and price ranges with different
features for specific types of towing. We carry a variety of brake controllers made by Reese and Tekonsha. Check our selection and save money!

| Brake Controller Basics: |
|
Proportional Trailer Brake Controllers are activated by
the brake pedal or a manual lever or button found on the brake controller itself. Through the use of aninternal
motion sensor the stopping power is adjusted to match your towing
vehicles rate of deceleration,.resulting in smoother braking. This
type of brake controller is almost essential with livestock as it
helps to control the jostling of the animals during transportation, and is becoming more popular all the time because of the advancements in technology.
Some electric brake controllers must be installed in a somewhat
level position in order to function properly, and have features that
allow for adjustment of the amount of total power sent to the
trailer brakes, plus diagnostics and push button signal boost
capability. |
|
|
|
Timed Brake Controllers are activated by stepping on the vehicles brake pedal or by using a manual lever to generate a signal to the trailers brakes which
smoothly increases over time. Some timed brake controllers allow for
an adjustment called a "Sync
Control" which speeds up or slows
down the rate of the power increase or "ramp timing". (This is
comparable to easing down on the brake pedal or hitting the brakes
hard). Timed brake controllers are great in situations where vehicle
design demands sideways, straight up and down or even upside down
installation, as the unit doesn't require any leveling during installation to operate. |
|
|
|
Pre-Wired Vehicles are considered the norm today. Most of the vehicles coming out of the factory are pre-wired internally to accept custom fit adapters which connect directly to the vehicle via a plug under the dashboard. These adapters can.quickly be connected to almost any modern electric trailer brake controller via a quick splice or in many cases plugged directly into the brake control itself. |
|
|
|
Electric Over Hydraulic Trailer Brakes are similar to your car or trucks brakes in that they use hydraulic brake fluid under pressure to apply braking power to the wheels, but instead of your foot an electric solenoid forces the pressure when activated by your electric brake controller.
Not all brake controllers are approved for this type of system. |
